General Description:
The thickness gauge is used to measure the thickness of the plated and coated sheet on metal, e.g. paint/enamel/ chrome on steel, paint and anodizing coating on aluminum/copper. The gauge takes the precision integrated probe, and uses principles of electro-magnetic induction and the eddy current effect, which automatically detects the attribute of substrates.
The Gauge is designed for non-destructively measuring the thickness of coating and painting. It is essential for material surface treatment and widely used in manufacturing industry, metal-processing industry, chemical industry, commodity inspection area, and also able to work steadily in the laboratory, workshop and outdoor.

This is a precision instrument that does it's job well. Easy to set up and use (it comes with a 9V battery which is easy to install and you are ready to go). They included two different metals and some samples of plastic so you can try it out right away. It has been useful for some paint work I did on my truck to know if I had the same thickness in a repair area as was on other parts of the truck. Looking forward to using this for a long time, and would recommend this if you are looking for a thickness gauge. Or, thinness gauge, depending on how you look at it. :-)
We repair both steel and aluminum vehicles and need to make sure we don’t repair over anything that already has too much millage. This gauge works perfect.

Great for the price and great to support my claim on a dealership claiming to have applied a layer of paint protection on my new ‘21 Chevy Tahoe. Argument being: According to GM Body Shop, paint gauge thickness are between 5-5.5. I asked for a digital reading before reading and after. Unfortunately, the dealership couldn’t provide evidence of such. I used the gauge to measure the average thickness around my SUV and measured at 5.4; Demonstrating to the dealerships service manager and GM (General Manager). Then applied, simple compound turtle wax, hand polished the same spot. Rechecked with the gauge and the gauge went up 5.5. I got my money back. If it wasn’t because I had taken the vehicle in to have the paint protection applied and they were done in an hour…I would have never researched the service. But all “Google” paint protection services are recorded to take anywhere from 2 hours and more depending on the product. I saved $1,800.00 and it went straight back to the car payment. For the price…Great! This is not a gauge that can have measurements downloaded on your PC. Those cost a lot more. This one worked for me to make my claim against the dealership.

Helped me buy a couple of cars. Inspected the paint and showed me that they were not repainted. Even if my engineering days are long gone, and I have no idea how many microns a good painting system should have, I just compared the values, and if they were close, I decided it wasn't repainted.
Works exactly as detailed. Very accurate and the memory function is extremely useful.

I used this meter to check the number of coats on my house before I stripped it to see if it would be too much work. It worked exactly as it should.
The unit is high-speed and straightforward to use and comes with a nice case. I am using it to know what I have paint wise but will be sure to use it regularly after detailing or heavy buffing. I highly recommend it.
I bought this as a secondary tool for my commercial powder coat shop and works better than my primary tool.
