Digital Coating Paint Film Thickness Gauge

I love the simplicity! Read and follow the instructions! Can’t go wrong. Make sure you calibrate it before use. Mine had no issues and was pretty spot on out of the box. There is a spring metal pointer with a plastic ring/base around it so make sure you press it level to the metal so that the ring lays flat against the surface. This will enable a more accurate read. What some folks don’t understand is that this device is measuring everything from the surface of the metal base to the top of your clear coat. Will not work on bumpers. As it states, it is for aluminum and steel based items. The thickness of your primer, paint, clear coat and any body fillers all add up to what is displayed on your screen. If one area is thick , 12mils for example, and 4” over to the next spot displays only 5 mils, there is a good chance the 12mil area was a repair job. My point is that thicker areas do not indicate thicker clear coat! This is an awesome unit for the price!

This thickness gauge is quite easy to use right out of the box, just power it on, press against a painted surface and instantly get a measurement. Measurements are repeatable so it seems accurate. I have used this to check panels on used cars quickly.

I'm a used car dealer and get lots use out of thickness gauges as they save me time and money. I checked my mail on the way out to an auction and the gauge was there, so I took it with me. It was easy to set up and intuitive to use. Right away it showed me a couple of vehicles that had replaced and/or repainted body panels. The large, bright display is easy to see and the size of the gauge fits my hand perfectly, unlike the cheaper and more expensive gauges I've used previously. If this holds up to regular use, it'll be a real "home run". It's also an incredible value.

There's cheaper thickness gauge meters out there, but most don't have a way to properly calibrate. This unit has full calibration features. It comes with metal substrates for zero cal as well as test tabs of different thicknesses for range calibration. Very happy with the product.

- If the car is repainted, has bondo layer, or other repair performed on it , this device will tell you about it. - The reading is instant and clear. - If you are into car restoration and detailing, or thinking of buying a used car, this would come in handy!

Really does a good job. It’s simple and effective. Oddly comes with two batteries which isn’t common these days. Recommended.

Doses not seen to be at all accurate. Changed my rating after the seller reached out to me and corrected my issue. Great communications.

Not super accurate. I used it to gauge the thickness of the paint on my steel boat. FYI you need to put both coin batteries in in order for it to work.

I buy and sell a lot of new and used cars. This device allows me to quickly assess if there has been previous damage or repaints done to areas of the car.

I bought this product to verify whether a panel had been repainted before polishing. I didn't want to do a test spot on an area and think I was good to go with a certain pads and compound/polish, then run into a complete different section, like thinking you have all hard clear coat, then burn right through a soft section. This product did spot on what I needed it to, and I'll definitely consider the brand when I need better accuracy.

Did what it was meant to. Very useful if you’re buying a used cars and want to see what’s been painted over or covered up by paint.

Wow, I am very impressed with this. It showed up same day from Amazon, put the included battery in, checked calibration and got to work testing the paint on my car. So easy to use and seemed consistent in its readings. The got carried away checking my diy paint job on my front door and such. This is a pretty cool device and i am sure I will find many more uses for it.

I was pleasantly impressed by this tool. The documentation is excellent and definitely a worthwhile read, in fact, I'd say its a mandatory read. They walk you through the controls and calibration processes for two kinds of metals. Its important to calibrate as instructed. I use, I first tested my own vehicle and then used it a couple more times on used cars that was considering. Paint thicknesses do vary based on panel location and, as the manual explains, you're looking for big differences between different panels more than paint differences on the same panel. I looked at the same model of car both times and saw the same pattern of paint thicknesses, where it was slightly thinner towards the bottom of the doors and slightly thicker along the C-pillars, for instance. I feel much more confident having used this tool than relying on an online service like Carfax which is only as good as the car accident and repair data that they collect.

Great product. The case feels well built and the buttons feel strong. It comes with a storage case, battery, calibration plates to ensure accurate measurements and easy to read instructions. Good price and easy to use.

So easy to use. Compared it to high dollar model at a local body shop and it was dead on. Sits on the top of my cart. Use every time before I polish a car.

I bought this item because I recently polished my car and guess what, I went through the paint. Now, I dont polish my car without ever checking how much clear coat I have. This item is dead accurate. Ok maybe +/-0.4 but when I do my checks, its on point most of the time. I wish I bought this sooner. I would recommend this product.

Not sure why thickness is an option to review on this but sure. The thickness of it seems about right? Anyway, works well, different modes are helpful depending on which you are looking for. Quick reminder it does not work on carbon fiber or non metal parts so you won’t be able to detect paint thickness on those parts. But otherwise great product for the price

For the money, I wasn't expecting much, but have been pleasantly surprised! The manufacturer even includes sample metal squares (ferrous and aluminum) and sample coating overlays of varying thickness to evaluate the calibration (1.97/3.94/9.84/19.7/39.4 mils). My unit is VERY accurate and precise (yes, I know the difference between those scientific terms) - less than 1% difference between subsequent/repeated readings of the same location, and less than 2% difference between the stated thickness of the samples and their actual readings. For a shade tree mechanic doing my own work, this more than suits my needs!

This thickness meter is a great tool and very easy to use. I test on several different rides with various paint conditions. It was exciting testing some of the rust spots in the video of my old rat rod.

Cheap and perfect for my profession

I didn’t know they made a mil gauge for aluminum but I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon this. Great price too!

Item works as described. Not hard to setup or use. Definitely recommend.

I tested that vehicle and it's perfect -- this device is really worth it because it bought me peace of mind!
